Aureliano Gonzalez-Baz is a Partner in Bryan Gonzalez Vargas & Gonzalez Baz, S.C., managing the Firm’s Mexico City office. He has more than 49 years’ experience principally advising foreign, publicly traded and private companies in their activities in Mexico. His practice is focused in advising clients with maquila, complex real-estate matters (such as development of industrial parks, REIT’s) development of businesses, tourism operations, financial structures and restructures, Mergers & Acquisitions, coordinating nationwide clients, participating in complex conflicts and litigations usually involving foreigners. He has advised foreign clients in the establishment and development of their operations in Mexico as well as Estate Planning involving domestic and international assets and in In addition to the foregoing, he is very active in the needs of our clients respecting Compliance, Money Laundering and other legal activities related to asset protection for the future considering the existing legal complexity applicable, including updates of domestic and foreign tax requirements. 

 He has participated in all phases and procedures with Municipal, State and Federal authorities that are required by a foreign investor as of structuring enterprises, operating permits, contracts for the purchase and/or lease of industrial, tourism, residential assets, in financial agreements of same and coordinate labor activities of the implementation of the T-MEC recently executed between Mexico, United States and Canada.

  • Has represented Fortune 500 and/or publicly traded companies in the establishment and development of operations in Mexico, including maquiladoras;

  • Advises publicly traded and private Mexican and foreign companies involved in industries including manufacture, industrial development, construction, commercial, telecommunications, oil & gas, health and tourism, amongst others;

  • Has registered foreign financial institutions with the Mexican Tax authorities;

  • Coordinated the team of the Firm that advised one of the governments’ participating in the 1992 North American Free Trade Agreement;

  • Coordinated the defense of the first suit of a United States Union against a foreign company due to its industrial operations in Mexico;

  • Advised a South American country in the development of its Industrial Export Program;

  • Processed the First-Ever-Permit for a foreign government to be able to acquire real-estate outside Mexico City for a Consular Post;

  • Negotiated the first-ever authorization from the National Foreign Investment Commission of Mexico to acquire a land carrier in Mexico;

  • Coordinated and negotiated a program through which a foreign company was granted to operate a Sea Port in Mexico with an investment of over 100 million dollars;

  • Coordinated and implemented the acquisition of real-estate for a foreign investor with an area greater than 57 square miles which would generate an investment exceeding 300 million dollars which includes a permit for a new airport and the construction of hospitals, transportation centers and initial homes for 5,000 families, and

  • Has participated in many investment promotional trips worldwide that have assisted in generating more than 150 industrial operations that in 2020 have more than 50,000 direct and indirect employees.
